Binder ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting your family's privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our platform at binder.school.
Binder is built for homeschool families. We treat homeschool records, children's information, and family planning data as private family information, not as a product to sell or monetize through advertising.
Information We Collect
Account information: When you create an account, we collect your name and email address.
Content you create: Lessons, narrations, attendance records, plans, portfolios, transcripts, co-op content, and other educational data you enter into Binder. This data belongs to you.
Usage, analytics, and reliability data: We collect limited product analytics, performance data, and error information to understand how Binder is used, improve reliability, and fix bugs. This may include page views, feature usage, browser/device information, referral information, performance timing, and exception reports.
Payment information: Payment processing is handled by our billing provider. We do not store credit card numbers on our servers.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
Binder uses necessary cookies to keep you signed in, remember secure session information, protect your account, and support authentication flows such as sign-in and account management. These cookies are required for the service to work.
We also use limited analytics and performance tools, including PostHog and Cloudflare, to understand aggregate product usage, measure reliability, diagnose errors, and improve Binder. These tools may use cookies, local storage, session storage, or similar browser technologies.
We do not use third-party advertising pixels or retargeting pixels, and we do not sell personal information gathered through cookies or analytics tools.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to provide, secure, and improve Binder. Specifically:
- To operate your account and deliver the service
- To save and display the homeschool records, plans, and content you create
- To send transactional emails, such as password resets, billing receipts, and important account notices
- To provide AI-powered features when you choose to use an AI-enabled plan
- To monitor reliability, diagnose errors, and improve performance
- To understand aggregate usage patterns so we can improve the product
AI Features & Your Data
When you use AI-powered features, the relevant content needed to answer your request may be sent to our AI provider (currently Google Gemini on Vertex AI) for processing. AI features are available only on the Binder AI plan or other clearly labeled AI-enabled features.
We do not use your content to train AI models. Binder AI is designed to work with the specific records or context you ask it to use, not to quietly scan unrelated family data in the background.
Service Providers
We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate Binder. These may include infrastructure, hosting, analytics, reliability, email, billing, and AI processing providers, such as Google Cloud, PostHog, Cloudflare, our payment processor, and Google Vertex AI/Gemini.
These providers are used to operate and improve Binder. They are not permitted by us to sell your family's data or use your homeschool content for their own advertising purposes.
What We Never Do
- We never sell your data to third parties
- We never display advertisements inside Binder
- We never use third-party advertising pixels or retargeting pixels
- We never share your children's information with data brokers
- We never use your homeschool content to train AI models
- We never use your private homeschool records for marketing purposes
Data Security
Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information. Access to production data is restricted to essential personnel only.
Your Rights
You can export or delete your data at any time from your account settings. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed within 30 days, except where we are required to retain limited records for legal, billing, fraud prevention, or security purposes.
